Research Projects

Allelon is committed to forming a multi-generational movement of missional leaders. This commitment requires that we take seriously an engagement with modern Western culture and the impact it has on how we train leaders and understand Christian discipleship.

Our two current research projects, the Missional Schools Project and the Mission in Western Culture Project, are both initiatives designed to develop frameworks, practices, and resources that address the question of a missional engagement in contemporary Western culture. These projects are formed in partnership with seminaries, denominations, local churches, and foundations.

Mission in Western Culture Project

This multi-year project (September 2006 — December 2012) addresses the question of mission in Western culture from the perspective of the local church and its context, and the implications for leadership development. The goal is to develop frameworks, practices and resources that address the question of a missional engagement in contemporary western culture through a mutually critical partnership with local churches in selected countries. Missional Schools Project

Over the past two years, Allelon has been in conversation with twenty-four seminaries and schools across North America to address how we train a new generation of leaders for the contexts in which we now find ourselves. This has involved consultations and conversations with the Presidents and Academic Deans of each school. The result has been a growing recognition of the need to address the institutional culture, faculty ethos, and theological curriculum of the school to engage in missional leadership formation from the perspective of a missional theology.
